Goa, Dec. 15 -- Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary was on Sunday appointed as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Uttar Pradesh unit, with the formal announcement made by Union Minister Piyush Goyal.

The declaration took place in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, underscoring the party's show of unity at the state level.

Chaudhary had filed his nomination for the post on Saturday and was the sole contender, paving the way for his unopposed election. He submitted his nomination papers to former Union Minister and BJP's Uttar Pradesh state election officer Mahendra Nath Pandey, along with central election observer Vinod Tawde.
