Goa, Oct. 28 -- Public transport in Panjim came to a standstill on Tuesday after all 48 drivers of the Smart City electric buses failed to report for duty, causing major inconvenience to hundreds of daily commuters.
According to sources, the drivers have gone on strike to protest pending salary payments, alleging that they have not been paid for several weeks. The sudden work stoppage led to the complete suspension of electric bus services across the capital, leaving passengers stranded at key pick-up points.
The strike has sparked criticism from commuters and raised questions about the management of the Smart City public transport project, which was launched to promote eco-friendly mobility within Panaji.
