India, Feb. 9 -- City Corporation of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate on Monday said that he personally does not support casinos and has taken note of the concerns raised by Panaji residents over a proposed new casino vessel in the Mandovi river.

Speaking to reporters, Monserrate said that the demand opposing the casino would be placed before the CCP Council for discussion so that the views of the elected body can be formally recorded.

The Mayor clarified that the CCP has no authority to issue casino licences, as the matter does not fall within the corporation's jurisdiction. He explained that the civic body's role is limited to granting trade licences for offices located on land, and not for casino operations.
