Goa, Dec. 14 -- An activist has raised alarm over the deteriorating condition of the heritage zone in Old Goa, writing to the Union Home Ministry and warning that the protected area is at serious risk. In his complaint, activist John B Mascarenhas alleged that senior state officials, including the Revenue Secretary and the Chief Secretary, failed to act against statutory violations despite repeated directions from competent authorities. He claimed that orders issued by the National Monuments Authority and the Archaeological Survey of India to remove unauthorised structures were allegedly ignored.
