Goa, July 26 -- Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik has informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that there is currently no special scheme in place to protect jayo (jasmine) farmers or their land in the State.

In a written reply to a question raised by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, the Minister also stated that no legal protection is provided by the Agriculture Department for jasmine farmers.

However, Naik clarified that farmers cultivating jayo in Mardol typically do so under verbal agreements with private landowners. These farmers are eligible to receive Krishi Cards under the "care-taker" category, which qualifies them for assistance under the Shetkari Adhar Nidhi scheme in the event of crop damage.
