India, Feb. 11 -- The Union government has clarified that no proposal for setting up a Metro Rail or urban rail system has been received from Goa so far.

The information was shared in the Rajya Sabha in response to a question raised by Goa MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, who sought to know whether any feasibility study had been conducted or plans were under consideration to introduce a metro or light rail system in the state.

Replying on behalf of the Centre, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs stated that urban transport planning falls under the jurisdiction of state governments. The Centre examines requests for financial assistance only after a formal proposal is submitted by the concerned state.
