Goa, April 12 -- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its probe into the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks by interrogating Tahawwur Rana, a key accused, for the first time on Indian soil. The focus of the questioning is on his alleged co-conspirators in Pakistan and his ties to David Coleman Headley, the Pakistani-American terrorist who helped plan the deadly assault.

According to senior officials familiar with the investigation, Rana is expected to be confronted with a "protected witness" who allegedly played a crucial role in facilitating Headley's operations in India.
