Goa, Jan. 7 -- Almost 60 lakh square metres of land in Pernem taluka have reportedly been converted under Sections 17(2) and 39A, triggering serious concern among locals and public representatives. Pernem MLA Jit Arolkar has submitted a formal representation seeking reversal of these conversions.

Arolkar claimed that zoning changes have been carried out in around 238 properties, many of which have been purchased by non-Goans. He has urged authorities to review the approvals, warning that large-scale land conversion could negatively impact local communities and the region's traditional character.

The matter is expected to be taken up for further examination by the concerned departments.
