Goa, Aug. 19 -- Almost 39% of the 2.20 lakh Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts in Goa are inoperative as of July 31, 2025, according to Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.

The disclosure highlights concerns over the effective utilization of the flagship financial inclusion scheme, which was launched to provide universal access to banking services, including savings accounts, credit, insurance, and pensions.

While PMJDY has significantly expanded banking penetration, the high proportion of inactive accounts in Goa raises questions about financial literacy, banking outreach, and the need to encourage account holders to actively use these facilities.
