CANACONA, June 27 -- A car driver had a narrow escape when he mistook a road leading to Galgibaga River wharf to be the NH66 road when he reached at Mashem turn and eventually landing into the river in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Sources said that the driver of the I20 car (GA-09-D-1569) was on his way to Margao from Mangalore, where he had travelled to, on Tuesday morning.
Enroute the journey, he reached Mashem turn at about 1 am on Wednesday. However, instead of taking a right turn, he headed straight to the road which goes to Galgibaga River wharf on Mashem side. By the time he realised that he had taken the wrong direction, half of the portion of his car was into the river.
