Goa, Sept. 5 -- Mumbai Police went on high alert Friday after receiving a chilling threat call claiming that 34 "human bombs" carrying 400 kg of RDX had been planted in different vehicles across the city. The call, made to the traffic police helpline, warned of a blast that would "shake the entire city."
The threat, issued in the name of an outfit called Lashkar-e-Jihadi, coincides with the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi immersions, when lakhs of devotees gather at visarjan sites. Security has been tightened across Mumbai and Maharashtra.
Authorities said the caller claimed the explosives could kill "one crore people." Police forces, bomb squads, and state intelligence units are on the ground conducting checks.
