Goa, Nov. 28 -- Mulgao villagers, during a meeting at the Bicholim Deputy Collector's office, strongly repeated their demand to remove houses, ponds, temples and a school located within the mining buffer zone. They insisted that authorities enforce the 2021 limits or completely halt mining activities. Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye stated that mining companies have claimed the buffer should begin 50 metres from the last house, while locals argue it must be 500 metres as per regional plan norms. He has asked the Deputy Collector to verify the legal position and ensure proper implementation. Dr. Shetye also stressed the need for immediate corrective measures without opposing mining entirely.
