Goa, Dec. 29 -- Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar has launched a Rs.1.5 crore project to upgrade the ageing sewerline near Canara Bank in Baina. The pipeline, which is nearly 40 years old and has been causing recurring sewage problems, will be replaced with a larger-capacity line by increasing its diameter by 300 mm.

Amonkar said similar sewerline replacement work is already in progress at Sada jetty and Bogda and is nearing completion. He added that work on the main pipeline connecting Sada to the Baina sewage treatment plant will begin shortly.

Urging residents to connect their household sewer systems to the upgraded line, Amonkar assured that free government assistance would be provided to those unable to afford the connection.
