Goa, Oct. 27 -- The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has initiated a sealing drive against shops operating without valid trade licences. Chairperson Girish Borkar said the move follows repeated warnings to shopkeepers over the past two and a half years to clear their dues.

"Some traders have complied, but many continue to take the council for granted," Borkar said on Monday. He added that the MMC cannot allow businesses to operate illegally while others follow the rules.

The council has issued notices to around 200 shopkeepers, giving them a seven-day deadline to clear their pending licence fees. Those who fail to comply will face immediate sealing of their establishments.
