Goa, July 25 -- Raising strong concerns in the Assembly, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Thursday criticised the performance of the Advocate General (AG), alleging that the state is lagging behind in several matters due to lack of proper legal guidance.

"The Advocate General is supposed to guide the government on everything. Due to the AG's failure, we are falling behind in every state matter," Viegas said during his intervention.

He further questioned the need to hire external legal counsel when the state already has an appointed AG. "If the AG is unable to guide us well, then why do we need him? Why are we bringing in lawyers from outside when we already have an Advocate General?"
