Goa, Oct. 31 -- The Mhaisal Dam at Shiroda, which meets the drinking and water requirements of the Shiroda constituency, has once again reached full capacity and begun overflowing following heavy unseasonal rainfall.

Officials said this is only the second time in 16 years that the dam has overflowed after the monsoon, the previous instance being in 2009. The dam, with a storage capacity of 26 metres, had filled and overflowed during the first week of July this year. By early October, however, the water level had dropped to 20 metres.

Recent spells of unseasonal rain over the past few days have refilled the reservoir to its maximum level, causing it to overflow again in the last week of October.
