Goa, Nov. 14 -- Janata Dal (United) leader Anant Singh, currently lodged in jail for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Jan Suraaj Party supporter, has delivered a remarkable performance in Mokama, winning by more than 28,000 votes. Singh defeated RJD's Veena Devi, wife of his long-time rival Surajbhan Singh, securing 91,416 votes against her 63,210. A five-time MLA, Singh first entered the Assembly in 2005 on a JD(U) ticket, retained his seat in 2010, and later contested as an Independent in 2015 after leaving the party. He joined the RJD in 2020 and won again. Singh lost his seat in 2022 following a conviction in an arms case, after which his wife Neelam Devi retained the seat.
