Goa, June 10 -- Vadachi Punav, also known as Vat Purnima, was celebrated with devotion across Goa and other regions on the full moon day of Jyeshtha. This traditional Hindu festival holds deep significance for married women, who observe the day by fasting and praying for the long life and well-being of their husbands.

The rituals include tying sacred threads around a banyan (vat) tree, symbolizing strength, resilience, and longevity. Women dressed in traditional attire gathered near temples and sacred trees to perform the puja, maintaining a practice that is quite prominent in Goa.

The festival is rooted in the legend of Savitri and Satyavan and continues to be a cherished observance promoting love, loyalty, and marital commitment.
