Goa, Oct. 8 -- In a bid to tackle persistent garbage dumping, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to install CCTV cameras at several garbage black spots across the city.
The decision comes after the civic body's year-and-a-half-long cleanliness drive failed to completely eliminate the problem despite significant efforts. During the campaign, MMC's special night patrol team booked nearly 200 violators and collected fines totaling around Rs.4 lakh for illegal waste disposal.
Municipal Engineer Deepak Desai said that while the initiative helped reduce littering to an extent, certain black spots continued to reappear.
