India, Jan. 4 -- Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has reiterated his opposition to land conversion, stating that he stands firmly with local residents who have been resisting such proposals for years. Arolkar said he had earlier supported the villagers during similar opposition and would continue to do so if any fresh attempt at land conversion was made. Stressing the importance of public consent, the MLA said development decisions must not be taken without consulting the affected communities. He added that safeguarding local interests and preserving the character of the region remained his priority.
