Goa, Jan. 25 -- A man in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district allegedly chopped off his own foot in an attempt to secure admission to an MBBS course through the disability quota, police said. The accused, identified as Suraj Bhaskar, initially claimed that unknown assailants attacked him at night and that he woke up the next morning to find his foot missing.

However, the police investigation revealed that Suraj had amputated his foot himself using a grinder and anaesthesia. Officials said his statements kept changing, raising suspicion. Call detail records and questioning of his girlfriend revealed that he was determined to gain MBBS admission at any cost.
