Goa, Dec. 6 -- In a joint operation, the Goa Fisheries Department and the Coastal Police on Friday intercepted a trawler from Malpe, Karnataka, for allegedly fishing illegally off the Calangute coast. Authorities detained the vessel after it was found operating in restricted waters in violation of state fishing regulations.

Officials said the action was part of intensified surveillance along Goa's coastline to curb illegal fishing activities and protect the interests of local fishermen. The detained trawler has been taken into custody for further inquiry, and necessary legal proceedings are expected to follow.
