Goa, Oct. 31 -- A major accident was narrowly avoided around 2 a.m. on Friday when a large tree collapsed on a bus stop at Tilamol, completely destroying the structure. Several street vendors who had their stalls beneath the tree suffered heavy losses, as their goods were damaged in the incident.

According to local residents, the tree had been in a dangerous condition for several weeks, and repeated warnings to authorities to have it cut down went unheeded.

Fortunately, the mishap occurred late at night when the area was deserted, preventing what could have been a serious tragedy involving commuters and passersby.
