PANJIM, Feb. 26 -- Mahashivratri the grand night when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married was celebrated with great devotion all over Goa.

It is one of the holiest festival inHinduism, marking a remembrance of "overcoming darkness and ignorance" in life and the world. It is celebrated byfasting, chanting, meditating, and visiting temples. Ardent devotees stay awake throughout this night. Others visit one of the Shiva temples or go on a pilgrimage to theJyotirlingams.

Mahashivratri was celebrated at Shri Shankar Devastan in Taliegao on Wednesday with devotion and enthusiasm. Hundred of devotees visited the temple to pay obeisance of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
