India, Feb. 4 -- Despite a strong willingness among smokers to quit, lack of self-control and nicotine dependence continue to be the biggest obstacles to smoking ces sation, according to a study conducted by Goa Medical College (GMC) in a rural setting in Goa. Tobacco use remains the single leading preventa ble cause of death globally. In India, nearly one in ten adults currently smokes tobacco, contributing sig nificantly to the growing burden of non-communi cable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and chronic respira tory illnesses.
