Goa, March 7 -- Residents of Khanyale village have launched a hunger strike in protest against ongoing stone quarrying activities near the Tilari reservoir, which they claim pose a significant threat to the safety of the dam. The quarrying operations, with seven to eight mines active in the area, have led to excessive soil accumulation in the reservoir, endangering the structural integrity of the dam.

The villagers are deeply concerned that if the dam were to break, Khanyale village would be devastated, with catastrophic consequences. The villagers are calling on both the Maharashtra and Goa governments to take immediate action to halt the quarrying activities and address the environmental risks posed by the mines.
