Goa, Nov. 23 -- Justice Surya Kant, renowned for his role in several landmark judgments such as the abrogation of Article 370, the revision of Bihar's electoral rolls, and the Pegasus spyware case, is set to take oath as India's 53rd Chief Justice on Monday, November 24, 2025. He will succeed Justice B R Gavai, who demits office on the same day.
Appointed as the next Chief Justice of India on October 30, Justice Surya Kant will serve for nearly 15 months, with his tenure slated to end on February 9, 2027, upon reaching the retirement age of 65.
