Goa, March 17 -- On Monday, Justice Joymalya Bagchi took his oath as a judge of the Supreme Court. He is set to become the Chief Justice of India in 2031, following Justice K V Vishwanathan. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna during a ceremony held at the Supreme Court, attended by various lawyers.

On March 10, the Law and Justice Ministry announced that Justice Bagchi, a judge from the Calcutta High Court, has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, effective from the day he takes on his new role.
