Goa, May 15 -- India's Olympic gold medallist and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army, effective from April 16, 2025. The announcement, made by the Ministry of Defence's Department of Military Affairs on May 13, acknowledges Chopra's extraordinary achievements in sports and his service in the Indian Army, where he previously held the rank of Subedar Major.

Chopra's sporting accolades include a historic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a world championship title in 2023, and a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, cementing his status as one of India's most decorated athletes.
