India, Jan. 4 -- India took a major step towards its 500 GW non-fossil energy target for 2030 by adding a record 44.5 GW of renewable capacity in 2025 (till November), almost double the 24.72 GW added during the same period last year. With this expansion, the country's total non-fossil installed capacity rose to 262.74 GW, accounting for 51.5% of the overall electricity capacity of 509.64 GW. Solar power led the growth, with 34.98 GW added in 2025, taking total solar capacity to 132.85 GW. Wind energy also saw steady progress, with capacity increasing by 5.82 GW to reach 53.99 GW in November 2025.
