Goa, Jan. 9 -- Former Supreme Court judge Justice Ferdino Rebello has strongly criticised the ongoing hill cutting activities in Goa, terming them "totally illegal" and detrimental to both the environment and local communities.

Speaking at the Goa Legislators' Day programme, Justice Rebello said rampant hill cutting is causing severe harm to Goans by contaminating wells, damaging natural resources and disturbing ecological balance. He asserted that such activities do not benefit local residents, but instead primarily generate revenue for the government through taxes.
