Goa, Sept. 23 -- Heavy overnight showers on Tuesday disrupted daily life across Kolkata and its surrounding areas, submerging several neighborhoods under knee-deep water and bringing traffic to a standstill.

The torrential rain, which began past midnight, led to water entering numerous homes and residential complexes as roads were inundated.

The city is on alert for more rainfall, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that a low-pressure area over the northeast Bay of Bengal could trigger heavy showers in multiple districts of south Bengal.
