PANJIM, June 17 -- Ahead of the upcoming Goa Assembly polls, the Dr Pramod Sawant-led government has lifted the almost five-year-long ban imposed on recruitment in the State administration with effect from May 27. Budget 2021-22 has promised to fill 11,000 vacancies in various government departments during the financial year.

The ban on mass recruitment was imposed by the earlier BJP-led coalition government led by then Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in November 2016 for smoother implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations to the employees, as the additional financial liability to the State was to the tune of Rs 47 crore a month, during that time.
