Goa, April 11 -- In a significant move aimed at preserving local heritage and protecting farmers, a Geographic Indication (GI) tag will soon be granted to Goa's famous cashew nuts, giving them a distinct identity in the global market. The announcement was made by Deviya Rane MLA, who confirmed that the process is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The GI tag will not only help safeguard the authenticity of Goan cashew but also prevent the mislabeling and sale of non-Goan varieties as local produce. Once granted, this certification will legally recognize the unique quality, flavor, and origin of cashew nuts grown in the region - a step that many believe is long overdue.
