Goa, Aug. 31 -- Over 400 ration cards have been surrendered in Goa within the last 45 days by families whose annual income has risen beyond the prescribed limits.

Of these, 246 cards were surrendered in North Goa and 141 in South Goa, the majority belonging to the poorest categories under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Civil Supplies Department officials confirmed that nearly 89% of the surrendered cards were NFSA and BPL, while only 10% were APL.

During the same period, around 100 new APL ration cards were issued, mostly to families who had given up their NFSA and BPL cards.
