Goa, Sept. 18 -- The Goa government has officially notified the Goa Animal Breeding and Domestication (Regulation and Compensation) Act, 2025, following the assent of Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju.

The new law empowers authorities to declare any animal breed as "ferocious", prohibiting its domestication, breeding, or import. Owners of such animals will be held fully liable for any harm caused, including compensation for injuries or deaths.

Under the Act, owners must report ferocious animals within 30 days and ensure sterilisation within 60 days. Failure to comply may attract fines up to Rs.50,000, imprisonment ranging from 15 days to three months, or community service as directed by courts.
