India, Feb. 13 -- Goa minister on Thursday said that the proposal to ban social media usage for children below the age of 16 is currently under review in accordance with provisions of the central Act.
Reiterating the government's intent to push for regulation, it was suggested that a small committee comprising members from academia and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) would be constituted to study the issue in detail and submit a report with recommendations.
It was clarified that the focus of the proposed ban is on curbing access to distracting and harmful social media handles, and not on restricting the use of educational or learning-based digital tools.
