Goa, May 18 -- Goa government has announced its annual fishing ban, in a bid to protect its marine resources and ensure sustainable fishing practices. Effective from June 1 to July 31, the ban encompasses various fishing methods, including those reliant on mechanical propulsion, trawl nets, and purse seine nets.

Under the stipulations of the Goa Marine Fishing Regulation Act of 1980, fishing vessels utilizing mechanical propulsion systems are barred from operation during this period. However, certain exemptions apply. Registered motorized canoes equipped with outboard or inboard motors of up to 10 HP capacity are allowed to continue fishing, provided they utilize gill nets exclusively.
