Goa, July 23 -- In a significant move aimed at protecting the environment, the Goa government has banned the import, sale, and transportation of Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols across the state. The directive comes ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and is part of efforts to promote eco-friendly celebrations.
According to the order issued, authorities will conduct strict inspections of Chitrashallas (idol-making workshops and outlets) from August 1 to 14 to ensure compliance. Violators of the ban will face stern action, including cancellation of trade licenses.
