Goa, July 5 -- In a progressive move to enhance gender equality and expand employment opportunities, the Goa government has officially permitted women to work night shifts in shops and commercial establishments between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The decision, notified under the Goa Shops and Establishments Act, 1973, is accompanied by strict safety and welfare provisions to safeguard women workers.

Women employees can be assigned night shifts only with their written consent, ensuring the decision is voluntary and not enforced by employers.
