Goa, Aug. 9 -- The Goa government has stepped up measures to curb drowning incidents in hazardous water bodies, targeting abandoned mining pits, stone quarries, lakes, canals, and waterfalls.
Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate told the Assembly that district collectors have issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, banning swimming, bathing, or entering unsafe sites. A special committee has been formed to monitor mining zones, while awareness drives are being conducted in schools and villages in coordination with local authorities.
