Goa, May 30 -- On May 30, 1987, Goa officially became the 25th state of the Indian Union, transitioning from a Union Territory in a landmark moment now commemorated as Statehood Day. As Goa marks 39 years of statehood, national leaders and political figures have come together to honour its unique journey and reaffirm the importance of protecting its cultural and historical identity.
