Goa, Oct. 29 -- A 64-year-old Finnish national, identified as Merja Marita Salminen, was found dead inside her locked room at a guest house in Calangute, police said on Wednesday.

According to sources, the staff grew suspicious after the woman did not respond to repeated knocks on her door. Upon entering the room with assistance from local authorities, she was found unresponsive.

Police have sent the body to the Goa Medical College (GMC) for medico-legal examination and post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Preliminary inquiries suggest no signs of foul play, but an investigation is underway to rule out any possibility. The concerned embassy has been informed of the incident.
