Goa, June 6 -- In a significant operation against illegal wildlife trade, Sanguem Police have seized 5.7 kilograms of ambergris-commonly referred to as whale vomit-valued at approximately Rs.10 crore. The seizure took place near the Pepsi plant in Dabamol, Sanguem.
Ambergris, a rare and expensive substance used primarily in high-end perfumery, is protected under wildlife laws due to its origin from endangered sperm whales.
Police sources confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the attempted sale. Among the accused, two are residents of Goa, while the third hails from another Indian state but currently resides in Goa.
