Goa, June 19 -- In a major step toward streamlining the voter registration process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced a new system aimed at ensuring the delivery of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls.

This includes new enrolments as well as changes in existing voter details. Currently, it takes slightly over a month for voter ID cards to reach electors, according to election officials.

Under the new mechanism, voters will benefit from real-time tracking of their EPICs from the moment they are generated by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to final delivery by the Department of Posts (DoP).
