Goa, Jan. 8 -- Member of Parliament Capt Viriato Fernandes has revealed that he has received a notice from the Election Commission of India (ECI) asking him to prove his identity in order to retain his name on the electoral roll-despite already having undergone extensive verification before contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Fernandes, a former naval officer, said he has been a committed voter since 1989, often travelling from various naval postings during his 26-year service to ensure he cast his vote.

Highlighting the larger concern for citizens, he remarked that if a sitting MP is required to reconfirm his identity despite prior scrutiny, it raises questions about the difficulties faced by ordinary voters.
