My first brush with stand-up comedy happened at my very first job in England, at of all places, a London hospital. I began work in Newham General Hospital, East London in August 1998 at the bottom rung of the hospital hierarchy ladder (senior house officer, SHO). My SHO colleagues were either OBGYN (obstetricians and gynaecologists) like me, or General Practice (GP) trainees. The latter group were much more fun to be with; the first group constantly talked shop.
