Goa, April 17 -- In recent times, fake gold coin scams have surely rocked Mumbai, with many gangs tricking people and taking away lakhs of rupees by selling fake coins.
In the latest case, Dongri Police arrested Abdul Mussa (51) and Pamesh Khemavat (59) for cheating a Mumbai jeweller of INR 2.3 crore by selling him fake gold coins that looked like real Swiss-made "Valcambi" coins.
The two men met the jeweller on April 12, 2025, and gave him 25 fake gold coins (100g each) in packaging that looked original. But when the jeweller tested the coins, he found they were not made of real gold. The police then arrested both men under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
