Goa, Oct. 9 -- Afghanistan's UN-sanctioned foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, began his week-long visit to India on Thursday, marking the first visit by a top Taliban leader since the group returned to power in 2021. Muttaqi received a warm welcome in New Delhi, but Indian officials are facing a flag dilemma as the Taliban's new Islamic Emirate flag has no official status in India.

Diplomatic protocol usually requires the guest nation's flag to be displayed alongside the host's, leaving authorities uncertain about how to proceed. During the visit, Muttaqi is expected to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval, highlighting India's cautious engagement with the Taliban amid regional and international attention.
