Goa, Oct. 31 -- Heavy rains have caused extensive damage to paddy fields in Curtorim, leaving several farmers struggling to cope with major crop losses. The situation has sparked growing concern among the local farming community, who say the government's current compensation rate of Rs.4 per square meter is insufficient to cover their losses.

Local service provider Moreno Rebello expressed frustration over the meagre relief being offered, stating that the cost of seeds, fertilizers, and labour has risen significantly in recent years. "Rs.4 per square meter is far too little compared to the heavy losses farmers have suffered. This amount won't help them recover or restart cultivation," Rebello said.
